Gaunt Face - considering cosmetic procedure

I should let you know that im a male in my early twenties. A couple of years ago I had surgery which resulted in me losing a lot of weight. I was skinny to begin with so it bacame more obvious after the operation. I slowly regained most of my weight over the years.

The problem is that i cant regain any weight in my face. There is not an ounce of fat around my cheeks. I look very gaunt and unhealthy. I have become extremely self conscious and have no confidence. I heard that you can have a cosmetic procedure where they inject a filler into your cheeks to make them appear fuller and healthier.

Has anyone had this done or know what the procedure involves? Any idea on the what i can expect to pay?

You should see your GP and ask for a referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist or both because you have obviously become irrationally obsessed with an aspect of your appearance. Nobody is physically perfect. The problem is not your appearance but your lack of confidence and inability to accept yourself just as you are.

Surgery is definitely not the answer and will most likely make matters worse.

I wouldnt have put it as harshly as the previous poster, but I do believe that you are probably over thinking something that is not as bad as you believe it is.

Any cosmetic filler procedure is temporary, the filler breaks down and becomes re-absorbed by the body over time.

As we age our faces lose the fuller look we had when we were younger, its a natural part of the aging process.

I think youd be best to work on your self esteem without resorting to surgery of any type, even if there was a permanent surgical procedure its likely that with low self esteem youd then find something else about your body to focus on as the problem.

  • Body dysmorphic disorder because he looks very gaunt and wants to do something about it? I've heard it all now. It can be very difficult to be underweight and have to field constant questions about your health and people telling you to eat more. I don't think it's entirely illogical to want to try to fix that. If OP had been fat and lost weight and had loads of saggy skin, I'm sure nobody would tell him he shouldn't have surgery to remove it and that he should learn to love it. What's the difference? OP seems to have a specific issue here, not a case of feeling ugly because of low self esteem.
