Ok so I worked in a company for 3 years and got laid off with the rest of the people I work with. I signed on and I get €153.60 a week. Was talking to one of the girls I used to work with and she also signed on but gets the full €196.00 a week.

I started there about a month before her, we both got paid the same, got the exact same letter and both paid the same tax?? Both my parents receive disability allowence because of illness- her parents are slightly different where one signs and the other works.

Why is there a difference in what we both get on the dole?

I'd love to be able to give you the right answer and many people here will try to give it to you but your best bet is to go back down to the social welfare office and question why you are not getting the whole amount if you are not happy then you are entitled to appeal it.

Did you apply for Jobseekers Benefit or Jobseekers Allowence?

Did you get a means test??
Are you over 25 years of age??

Your average weekly earnings for 2008 were between €220 and €300 hence the reduced rate. You should have applied for JA and would have got the full amount!

You should have been advised about the reduced rate when making the claim. Are you sure that both of you were paid the same in 2008?
You wouldn't necessarily get the full amount on JA - it is means tested so depends on your circumstances.
You should go to your local office and query your payment.
