How much payment for the FAS jobs?

Just a query. I'm assuming you just get the dole like on the Fas student placement programme, so less than 200 euro?

Just I spotted full time positions with a certain disability service provider in Galway, looking for a social worker, physio, speech therapist etc, all of which state"This is a work experience programme and does not offer a salary"

I know it could be said that most jobs in Fas would be paid more than the dole if they were offered outside FAS, but seriously, I would seriously take issue with getting 200euro a week while my colleagues got three times that for doing the saem work. Social work, physio, speech language etc take years of study...I dunno, it just seems odd..

This is a very hot topic lately! There was a thread created about this issue here if you are interested.

I think if more and more people speak out against this farcical idea from FAS then they might actually get the point and instead invest their time in creating training and schemes that don't go against one of the most fundamental of labour laws

I brought examples like this to the attention of a Fas employee who was reviewing my situation at the time, she explained how she thought the WPP was a lost cause as indeed most employer's see it as "free" labour instead of actually enabling the employee to gain some needed experience.

Also she gave an example of how it can cost the employee money, she said how a lady had accepted a position, had her dole cut in the budget, and then due to the cold snap closing school's, had to pay for a child minder out of her own pocket so she could still show up to the WPP position.

It's a complete and utter farce of a program and seriously needs to be scrapped...along with that Fas needs to be completely re-structured, as I find the ground support staff that you meet face to face are quite competent but the upper echelons are brainless F***Wits!

Well, thanks for the replies, I was worried I would be slated down with comments of 'well you should be glad you have a job!!' etc.

I've spent the past two years on a full time course (working part time when I can) to qualify as one of thos professions and I am damned if I'll work from 197 a week afterwards. I'd get more money working in Tescos.

I'm more annoyed at the agency who are willing to use qualified people in a time where they may not have another option...boils my blood.
