I am looking for a small clip on speedometer that I can fit to a bicycle that I would use in Dublin City? I want to be able to remove it when its locked.

They are readily available in any local bike shop starting around €20-25 but if it is for the purpose of the current thread over in motors you should know that legally bicycles are NOT bound by the speed limit as they are not "mechanically propelled vehicles" under the Road Traffic Legislation. This is the law, write to your TD if you want it changed.

The vast majority of cyclists would not be going over 30km/h or even 20 in the city centre and in any case in a collision due to their reduced mass produce a far lower risk of injury. There are other laws that do apply to cyclists as to being in safe control of their vehicle and they would be liable in the case of any collision that was their fault.

I am aware of their exemption but I would be curious to know what speed I would be doing in the City Center. I have managed to do 35mph before. :p

Cool, I know I would be well capable of going over 30km/h on the likes of the Quays but to be honest would generally be around 25 max looking out for pedestrians, cars pulling out etc. Out for a spin in the countryside would be cruising up to 35km/h, a bit over if there was a downhill/tailwind/in fastish group. Max 89km/h off Lugalla towards Roundwood.

What type of gear ratio to get that?

    I have used a 52 front 14 rear to achieve about 55kph.

It's less about gears and more about position at those speeds.
