For commuting: Lights, lock, spare tubes, pump.

For longer distance: Bib shorts, breathable windproof jacket, helmet, bidon, lights, spare tubes, pump.

For your house: Basic set of allen keys, Floor (track) pump, lubricant.

What kind of bike? Where do you commute to? What kind of cycles did you have in mind?

    And a puncture repair kit.
    DFD.

    And a puncture repair kit.
    DFD.

For me that is a "home" accessory. I'm weak, there is a point where I say "enough is enough" and sitting at the side of the road looking for a puncture then waiting for the glue to set, possibly in the lashing rain knowing this country, is my quitting point :).

Two tubes in the rucksack should be enough for anyone but the most unlucky commuter.

Based on this thread I think a repair kit in the rucksack is a good idea. I concur with the repair by the side of the road hell, but at least when you get to the office/ inside you can repair then for the return trip.
