The seller of the car is liable for the tax on a car they have sold right.
So how is this enforced ?
Does the old owner get a bill or how do they prove they have not used it ?

    Thanks
    Rob

the buyer is liable for any tax after the date of change of ownership, no back tax is due after the date of change.

    thanks colm,

but how does the seller pay the tax owed for the last few months?

they don't pay it and there are no repercussions for not paying - you just sign the change of ownership, send it off and tax it in your own name when you get the cert back.
