So Charlie Brid is returning to Ireland (I heard he was a little lonely over in washington (from a little birdy))*

So who in RTÉ do you think should replace him?

I am thinking Anthony Murnane since he has been the foreign editor for a few years.

*his name just leads to puns

Does A.Murnane not have another job like head of news or a particular news section?

Remember he got promoted last year or the year before.

    Here's a thought - nobody.

They should give Charlie a pleasent surprise when he gets back, a P45. His reports are more about the man himself, than the story he reports. The man had to suffer the indignity of sleeping in a tent after reporting on the tsunami.

yeah i think all of them in RTE have it to cushy sack him when he gets back.
get rid of that guy on the late late get rid of fair city, tell George lee the party is over and send him down the road too now that would be a great saving for RTE and no one would be none the wiser..

Mr. Lee needs a new position :)

Thats the problem RTÉ have people thinking that it just Fair City and The Late Late Show. But really they need to sort them out themselves.

Send Bird & Lee out to the States. That way Bird has company and we dont have Lee hanging around.

Charlie Bird thinks Charlie Bird will be a big hit when he gets home and that the Irish nation knows Charlie Bird's importance

Early betting would be on George Lee, they'd be better off getting somebody young and ambitious who knows who Dan Rooney is. Lee would be a disaster, his ego couldn't cope, same as Bird's

Lee is an economics 'guru'. Following his disastrous run in Politics, I doubt if we will see too much of him in front of the camera again.

He has nailed his colours to the mast which despite the short marriage is usually the death knell for current affairs reporters.

What's Aoife Kavanagh doing right now?

I'd say none of the high salaried establishment would touch it, young guy or gal on the way up with no ties probably.

Anyway he won't be back until May 2010 even if he returns, RTÉ could extend Lee's career break for another year.

Indeed, a hungry young beaver should be posted. To his credit, Robert Shortt did a good job out there.
