    Hi,

I know there was a similar thread recently on this kind of topic (and probably plenty others as well) but a thought has just entered my head, after discovering some facts online, that's got me incredibly worried and stressed out.

I am a male, 20, and and I have never worried about about hair loss before, as my family (both sides) have good genes in that area and my dad is passing 50 yet has only started thinning in the past couple of years.

However, I came across a frightening FACT, online recently... and that is that apparently tight hairstyles over long periods can cause hair loss..

Until only recently I had very long hair which I wore in a tight ponytail everyday for at least 3 years (17 onwards).. Now I am convinced I damaged my hair..

There doesn't seem to be much info on that fact I found. One source stated that the hair loss would only be temporary and would return once the hair stopped being pulled.. but I don't even know if that's reliable information....

Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

Hi Op. I think this means having your hair EXTREMELY tight as if it looks stuck to your head and you can feel your hair being pulled from it's roots.

    2) Tight hairstyles and use of hair dryers can cause hair loss: True and False
It's true that constant use of tight ponytails and cornrows, and excessive blow drying can put a lot of stress on hair follicles and cause strands to break or become damaged. In extreme cases, the tight pulling of hair over time can create minor bald patches known as traction alopecia, but the hair loss is only temporary and growth will resume when severe styling is discontinued. These hair styling habits don't create permanent hair loss because they typically don't damage the root of hair follicles underneath the scalp's surface.

Oh **** does this mean that my toe and finger nails are going to start falling out:D

Chill out dude, if your hair is going to fall out it is nothing to do with keeping it short, how absurd would that be. All the worry might make it fall out though. Get on with it mate and stop frettin:)
