Wedding stationary in general - how much is it costing?

We're getting married in 4 months, and right now focusing on the stationary side of things.

Went into a well known Galway City printers to get quotes. It's nearly €1,000 for all of the following:

Day invitation, evening invitation, RSVP cards, thank you cards and table place names. And these are all standard template, no special requests bumping up the price.

And that's with only max of 150 people sitting for dinner, and probably no more than 100 attending the afters.

What kind of prices are people paying? And can anybody recommend me some reputable printers that won't pull ones pants down with the price please (don't have to be in Galway).

    Thanks peeps:)

PM me if you are interested in some invitations at a very reasonable price (and no make and do needed!)
we are starting up a business in this area, since we realised the crazy prices charged here for fairly mediocre invites.
We have been doing some research on this and the cheapest invites available in Ireland (which are basically cream or white card) are around €3.50 - €4 each, just for the day invite. We can supply some pretty fancy ones for that price, with printing inc.
We feel we can offer more than that for much better value.
We are still just in the beginning stages right now, and not quite ready to 'launch' yet, (hoping to go live with website etc in March/Apri) but we can give you some info and I am confident we can supply to you if you are interested. PM if it sounds like something you might consider.

We made our own. It worked out at €87 for 100 invites which were made up of pocketfold, 3 inserts, rsvp and envelopes for the pocketfold and the rsvp. I printed them up on the computer which had the added advantage that I could add names to the RSVP's so noone replied without me knowing who they were. The envelopes came from ebay and the card stock from a local craft shop. My handwriting is awful so I broke all the ettiquette rules and printed the addresses on clear labels (not included in the €87). Postage was also more, and I put stamps on the rsvp's so that came back at another €100 (hand delivered some, but posted some abroad). The only downside is that it does take a fair bit of time to do a good job. At a guess 30 hours. Some photo's parts-blurred.jpg

Thanks a lot all, am looking at the possiblities of doing it ourselves.

Will have more of a think about it and get back to ye.

We got ours on vistaprint and they were just what we wanted. We got about 120 invites for less than €60. We didn't get rsvp cards, place names etc and will probably get the thankyou cards after the wedding from vistaprint.

hi there - how many invites (day and evening) was this?
we are just in the pricing stage now, so we want to compete with the do it yourself market in particular. We could offer a few types of invites for this price, qty 100-150...but if you got more than 150, well, that would be hard to beat.....EDIT TO ADD - just got confirmation from our printer that they will be able to do an all in price, so we would be able to offer invitations from €1.50 ea inc personalised printing, envelopes etc. Min qty 100 (but this can be split over day and evening invites)

Sample idea would be pearlized card (like above), with a wax paper cover, with a design and glitter. These would start from €1.50 each with personalised printing).

What do people think of these prices? are they still competitive, considering people can print themselves if they want? would you pay an extra €50 not to have the hassle of doing it yourself?

(mods feel free to edit etc if you feel this is breeching any advertising rules - but would appreciate some feedback on what opinions buyers have! thanks!)

We got ours from Fairytalevisions and found the prices much better than what we found here. I have pics of them if you want (ours was about 100 invites with RSVP cards and both envelopes) but even with postage from America it was very very good value and we had lots of compliments on the invites.

We're making ours ourselves, got 300 blank cream cards with envelopes from Corkartsupplies.com, which will be enough for day invites, evening invites, and thank you cards.

We also got 100 sheets of lovely textured card/paper to make the covers for the mass booklets. This all came to €90 including P&P. Have sourced clear labels for the envelopes (I know handwritten is more traditional, but I'd be at it for hours) from Viking Direct, it's about €25 for 500 labels (if you're doing this make sure the labels and card are suitable for your printer ie: inkjet/laser etc)

Printer ink I'd say will work out at €100 (very worst case scenario) and stamps will probably be another €60ish.

I'm really looking forward to printing them all up, have designed them already and done test prints to make sure everything works well, and they look great if I do say so myself. ;)

to all of you who made/are making our invites....
it appears that the prices for doing this for 100 invites are starting at about €100 upwards.
Can I just ask, if you could get some really nice, good quality invites, for €50-€60 more than doing yourself, printed and ready to go, would you think it is worth the extra €50-60, or would you still make them yourself?

An idea of invites which would be €160 for €100, inc printing, envelopes, rsvp cards attached.
Do people think this represents good value?

I thought it was worth it because we got exactly what we wanted for a cheap price. For a similar price in the readymade market we would have had simple invites and compromised on design. It was a lot of work though.

I wanted to make mine regardless of the cost, cos I love making cards, I do it for birthdays and christmas every year. I think if you can manage to make something of good quality which is only €50 or €60 more expensive as making them yourself, then I would imagine people would buy them. I went looking at wedding stationery with my SIL when she was planning her wedding and I was stunned at how much of a rip off some of it was!

absolutely agree - we researched this a lot before our own wedding and now since we have been looking into the business - what is offered by some of the most well know suppliers is laughable! And the price they charge for what could be done equally as well yourself.
We are hoping to provide some unusual designs, different to what is currently available in the market, at a price which competes with the 'DIY' market, but yet don't look cheap.
It has taken a while to find the right suppliers, with the right products and prices, but we are almost there now, and hopefully it will work out.

I am amazed at the prices charged for some of the designs, and I am amazed that these companies are still getting so much business. Hopefully their narrow sightedness will be our gain - people are much more price savvy now and want value for money. Even people with wads of cash to spend still want the best value for their wads!

we will be able to offer some 'fancy' (for want of a better word) and design led invites - not just simple to be cheap. The one I attached is quite detailed, which is not clear from the photo. It is 3 layers, one pearlised card, one embossed layer and one parchment/wax paper. inside there is a card overlay. the envelope is pearlised paper to match the card. RSVPs are in the same pearl card. We think this offers good value for €150 inc printing.
We literally have 100's of styles, from very classic and simple to contemporary to blinging! The dearest card we are going to stock is €6 but the nearest comparible from Lantz is €13 ().

I hope we can get a corner of the market with this type of value. Anyone with any suggestions as a consumer please throw them over - we are happy to hear feedback/suggestions/ideas to help us offer what people are looking for.

Has anybody used Reads of Nassau St in Dublin?

They have some decent templates on their website, and are very competitively priced, in fact we can get the lot done for a quarter of the price quoted in my first post.

Anybody any experience with them? How were they?

I couldn't believe how much we were quoted for wedding stationary when we tied the knot last year. No wonder wedding cost as much as they do nowadays. We ended up copying a Vera Wang example and doing it ourselves. Our guests thought they were professionally made.

Made my own, cost me about 100 euros for 150 people and that includes invites, envelopes, maps, rsvp, evening and mass book, printing up the writing parts and silver heat foiling all the writing- my invites have sparkly diamonds on the outside, shiny silver foil writing and a one side of the inside has a filagree printed material on it (like in interior design where they have a white room and one section wallpapered). All the pieces match and it took me about 2 months and a day of help from one bridesmaid (silver foiling takes ages) to complete.

I bought everything in silkes except the foil which I got here: http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/
and someone always has a laminator somewhere/failing that an iron works too!

Wedding stamps cost me 75 euros for invites and rsvp cards and an extra 27c x 9 for those abroad (it's 87c to send anywhere in the world)

Got great feedback on it and getting the same made up online would've cost me about 2 grand without the stamp costs!!

I love that foil, fantastic idea!

I love that foil, fantastic idea!

15 euros worth did the whole 150 invites! It takes a bit of patience but the end result is just gorgeous! Well worth it!:)

Can I just ask what kinda price range would someone think is reasonable for 100 pre-made invitations? Im just curious. Have been browsing through some websites...seems expensive. Am considering making them myself looking at these prices!!

Try www.bluearkdesign.com for reasonable ready made wedding invitations. Almost went with there guys but ended up buying the paper and doing them myself. Did pocketfold invites that had 3 layers on main invite part and included direction, accomodation, rsvp preaddressed back to us, map, and clear address labels on envelopes. All paper colours tied in with either bridesmaid or my dress colour and I absolutely adored them. Used the same colours but this time it was a gatefold card to make the thank you cards that we sent out after. Spent forever working with fonts and styles before I was happy with them. Worked out at about €433 for all 200 day invites and 50 evening invites and mass booklets. Delighted I did them myself too :-)

Hunnymonster - those invitations are just gorgeous.

We are looking to do our own invites, it's ok sourcing the materials, we seem to be a bit stuck on the actual design and layout.
