Too late to apply to UK in April?

I am really hoping to get the PGDE in Ireland. I'd like to wait to hear from PAC and Trinity first, then apply to the UK only if I have to. Is there likely to be many places left on courses in the UK in April? Or is it too risky to leave it so late?

depends what you subject is. You'll know the subjects they find harder to fill in the UK by the grants they give. If your subject has a £9,000 grant then i'd say you'll be ok but you may not get your first choice college but you'll get something.

If you're in the £6,000 bracket then your chances are slimmer.

Those figures i used are from 2 years ago. may have changed now

I dont know your subjects but GTTR has been open since Sept 09 and from what I see, there are not a whole heap of colleges left now. :(

If you applied now you would be on average waiting 2 weeks for your reference to get back to the GTTR, then 28 working days for the college to get back to you with an interview date, if they call you, then possibly two-three weeks to interview and another 3 weeks waiting to hear back about it. That would take you up to April and then you wouldn't be too late and you might still get the college you picked...

just my thoughts... but what's the harm in doing it now?? You can always take your application out of the system or say no to a college. :)

 Just went on the GTTR website and there's piles of vacancies even for a popular subject like business education.

    Whats your subject hazeler?

Im for primary school... wasn't thinking too much in the secondary side of things when I posted, there's not much left for primary in comparison to the pick you have in September when it opens...

Yeah primary is in much greater demand. But isn't the OP talking secondary?

There are still UK vacancies for secondary, but most people sent in applications before Christmas. I sent mine in through the GTTR in mid-December. My first choice was full by the time my reference went in, and my second choice only got back to me last week. I have an interview next week, but if I'm unsuccessful, I would imagine my third and fourth choices will probably be full by the time they get my application. A lot of the universities are doing rounds of interviews this month, and I would imagine that the vacancies list will change dramatically by the end of the month.

That being said, all my choices are in the London area, so there may be less competition for places in non-London colleges.

My advice would be to get your application into the GTTR anyway now. It's less expensive than over here - £17 for unlimited choices (i.e. four choices, four more if you're unsuccessful, then extra, then clearing).

    Good luck!

Hi, thanks for all the replies. Yes I'm talking about secondary, and my subjects are two modern foreign languages. There seems to be a lot of vacancies, but then I suppose even though there are still places they do have a long list of candidates for interview before they get to me. I'll apply now. I was just putting it off because will have to contact references, write a personal statement etc and I'm really hoping to get it in Ireland. I put so much effort into those applications. But yeah I'm just being lazy about the UK, better get on it!
