pedal noise

hi , i have hybrid bike and noticed when i pedal hard there is like a knocking kind of noise, i wondered what it is and what can i do about it.

Possibilities are bad pedal or loose bottom bracket.

Try spinning a pedal by hand on its shaft. Any noise is dry/bad bearings.

To test the bottom bracket, put one pedal at the bottom of its travel. Now stand on it hard and listen for a crunch. Do the same on the other side. If the BB is loose you should hear something.

There could be other possibilities too...
