    From Irishracing.com

Don't miss Ear To The Ground Tue at 8.30 on RTE One
The point to point race has often been described as the lifeblood of
the racing industry in Ireland and many of the top jockeys cut their teeth at
these courses around the country. Besides that, these races are the highlight
of many farmers' social calendars. With this event comes a pride and passion
that touches rural communities throughout the country.

For Dungarvan farmer, John Kiely, the point-to-point has been a lifelong
passion. He rode in some of the first point to point races, and now organises
the Dungarvan event each year. Ella McSweeney travels to this point to point
in Dungarvan to soak up the atmosphere, and to witness all the preparation
    that goes into this event.

I think this is on at 8.30pm and not 7pm tomorrow.

The article states that Kiely 'rode in some of the first point to point races'. I assume they mean he rode in one of the first point-to-points held by the Dungarvan Harriers. Either that, or he's over 200 years old!

Yeah, he did. Very succinct, structured and accessibly informative. Pity the same cannot be said of the 'reporter'.

Nice piece on point to points. Have to say that the reporter looked more than a little lost. Had to snigger when she dug herself into a hole by imploring Derek "when you out there riding the horse, be thinking of me".

She kinda reminded me of the girlfriend that a lad would only bring to a point-to-point or the races once in a blue moon simply because she'd be saying something silly/embarassing along those lines!

Didn't see it. John Kiely, as in John E Kiely the trainer? If so, my dad will be gutted to have missed it as he's an old friend...

I think she was the same reporter who visited Sea the Stars last year and thankfully it wasn't as cringe worthy.

Saw the same thing on BBC's farming programme a couple of years ago where the reporter went all silly talking to trainers and jockeys. It got me thinking, do reporters lose the plot when they see horses in action? Does the journalism colleges teach them to go all giggly when they discuss horse racing?
