    Story folks,

Ok, like many people recently i've just gotten my first "decent" bike with b2w - Giant Defy 3, fairly happy with it.

Anyway, i've started to go out for the odd spin here and there over the past few weeks, fairly short most times somewhere between 10k - 30k.

As a beginner, what kind of average speed should I be aiming for? I'm not trying to be extra competitive but in fairness, this entire sport seems to be all about better faster stronger.

For info, I think I've been averaging 28k on flats, quickly down to 23/24 on very slight incline and then up to 35/36 on a similar descent.

    Cheers.

They seem like very reasonable speeds, indeed very fast I would have thought for a beginner. Average speeds are somewhat difficult to gauge as there is so much variance with wind, etc. I wouldn't look at mine that often. If you like numbers a heart rate monitor is cheap and will give you a better impression of effort expended in a session.
