Authorized iPod Repairers (Dectek)

iPod has cacked itself again and all signs seem to point to either a software problem (which I can't seem to correct) or a hard drive problem. (error -48)

Have tried all the trouble shooting I can find but to no avail so it's time to send it back.
I looked up a place in Dublin called Dectek and was wondering if any feedback on them, or on any other retailer that can fix it which I may be over looking.

I know Dectek. I think they may only do warranty repairs though but I could be wrong. They are an authorised reseller and repair agent.

I've used Dectek in the past (although it wasnt an Apple product) and they were reliable.

    Well that's good to know.

Though the ipod is well out of warranty....which is precisely why I'm looking for them.

Yeah, so some rude **** in Dectek told me that they won't touch it out of warranty.

Can't imagine why not since there'd be a few quid in it for them.

Anyway, Mr.**** couldn't tell me of anywhere that will do said repair....and the apple forums are a flippin mare.

Anyone here know of anywhere I can get this bastard'n thing looked at?

I wouldn't imagine there would be too much money in fixing out of warranty ipods, especially if it needed parts. Surely the most anyone would be interested in paying for a repair is about €70, then when you factor in vat, labour and parts ... the margins wouldn't be worth talking about.

Anyway .. a quick google for ipod repairs will give you a few options.

I know, it;s just **** to think that I have to throw it out and buy a new one.
Especially since a new one would have to be twice the capacity and therefore size of the one I currently own.

Anyway, repair is still cheaper than a new one.

I used these guys to fix a photo iPod out of warranty a few years ago. Cost me €45.

Not sure if they are still around as it was a few years ago. They gave me a free estimate as far as I recall.

I've recommended them before and I've no problems doing it again - fixed a mute button and headphone socket on an iphone for me for €50ish.

Go to any Apple reseller - think there is a list on the Apple site

They will have a look at it - and max cost quoted to me at the time (ipod classic 30gb) was €75. If they can't fix, they replace with refurb.
