Less than 2 weeks out now and really looking forward to it

Part of the route that turns down the Ballagh road appears to have restricted access due to road works - does anyone know how bad the surface is and will it be finished in time for the race?

Sorry, don't know the answer to your question!

Just wondering what the route is like? Many hills? :o

It's my first 10k race since starting running during the Summer. :D

    Hi annieee
John O'Leary has done up the route on MapMyRun here. If you click on 'show elevation' in the little box on the right of the screen it will do exactly what it says it will do :p

    Contents of email received:
For anyone travelling from outside the area you can zoom out on this map and use it for directions. Race HQ is in the Shamrocks GAA complex, this is adjacent to the finish line. Parking is available at Race HQ and other designated car parks close to the finish area. Please follow stewards directions. Changing and showering facilities are available at Race HQ. Tea and sandwiches are also being provided after the race.

can you pay on the day ?? Might use it as a training run...........Another good race for a nominal fee. Plenty of hills but very fair. Nice 60m uphill at the finish.

Was considering doing this during a visit to the parents that weekend, but not sure I like the sound of the quote above! Hmm... Might stay in Dublin and stick with XC instead.

Honest answers here please - seeing as this will be my first 10k race is it acceptable to walk up hills?

Or is that something a 'real' runner just doesn't cpontemplate? :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,742 ✭✭✭ultraman1

dont think of it as a failure think it as strategy

It's something that a "real" runner doesn't contemplate but sometimes has to do :o.

Hey, maybe I'm a real runner after all then.

    Or at least strategic.

(Thanks for fixin' my typo :o)

Thanks Dusty, what time you hoping for? I was hoping for 41.59 but hearing about the course I think it could be bit more

I've been thinking that 42 mins would be nice alright
    (kennyb3 - 5 seconds would be better;))

Ran 44:45 in Crookstown 10k - my only other crack at the distance

We'll have to meet up before the race

If the course is the same as last year, it has one mutha of a hill, down into a valley and back out again. Was going like a steam engine coming up it, 'I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...' :D

Slight uphill drag at the start, and I thought the last few hundred metres was downhill? Or maybe I was just happy to be finished.

Anyway looking forward to this now, even though Ill be slower than last year!

Still undecided about whether to race this or not. At the moment the plan is that I'll be in Wexford so might come and watch even if I don't run... Hopefully meet a few of you there :)

This is my first time in 3 years to miss this, when im traveling to work in the moring and see the signs up ill be a little sad. So all you lucky people enjoy it, its well run and a good course, and the running condisions in enniscorthy today were perfect so hopfully it will hold up.

    Ran today, pb'd at 41:01
Great to meet Kennyb in person, although the fecker did beat me by about 30 sec's - fair play, dodgy ankle or not
John O'Leary out front at the start making sure everyone knew where they were going, large enough field, and I'm fairly sure the winner broke the course record - €650 for half an hours work!!
Enjoyed the race and hope to be back next year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭annieee

My first 10k so a pb for me too! ;)

(Not going to tell you my time - you'll all think it's grandma slooooowwww.)

    Really well organised race -

    Signposted well
    Numbers given out efficiently
    Stewarded well
    Lovely route
    friendly people
and a cuppa and a sandwich afterwards

    Sure what more d'ya want?

Well done Dusty Bin and kennyb! Great times.

Well done all :) No pb for me, 46.13 but happy as havent been running fast lately. Couldnt have done it faster anyway. :) Didnt see another woman on the route, surrounded by guys. Made me wonder where all the gals were. Had forgotten what a pig that hill was between four and six k. :) As usual great day, well organised, with lovely sambos after. Well done John and co!

congrats yourself, I think I remember you saying you took a minute off your own best time (10k or that course? - not sure)
    Good to talk to you

Really nice to meet you dusty, good to have a chat before and nice to have each other to help with the racing during. did a quick (ish) race report on the log before going out last night. great day for it and very well organised and marshalled. hopefully see you at a race again soon.

    Hi kennyb3,
yea I remember you. You were a few metres ahead of me till km 6 or 7 - I kept loosing you on the climbs. The auld endurance gear kicked in at 8km up that straight then and at 9km I decided to go on a gallop (which thankfully i sustained). I knew it was a downhill finish :pac:

The Wexford Half T-shirt is white with a few logos on the back (colourful). I had brown shorts on.

Ah... the penny has dropped Dustybin. Thanks. Yea - it was a min off on last years time. We were all having a serious ding dong in that group... I guess we all had sub 40 on our minds
