    Hey guys
I'm about to purchase an 06 Mondeo as I'm being offered it at a great price. I've driven and am happy with it but something I forgot to check, and cant at the moment as I'm working, is what the cd player and speakers are like in it? Its only the entry level LX spec so are they pretty worthless?

If this is the case, can anyone advise how easy it is to replace the standard cd player? I noticed that its a double din one.

I had a Ford previously and it was fairly easy to replace the player but it wasn't a mondeo so it could be different.

    Thanks.

It's probably the same CD6000 set up that they've been using for ages, and that I had in my 2001 Zetec Spec. I found the system pretty good, whacked up the Bass and due to my seating position got a lovely deep vibration from the rear door speaker :D

Would only start to distort at the sort of volume a manufacturer sound system shouldn't go to - the sort of volume that kind of hurts your ears.

Thats what I wanted to hear. In fairness the sound was quite acceptable in the previous Focus I had so I'm sure its no worse. I had been hoping to have the upgraded Sony system but have to settle for bog spec LX. ;)

If you can find an upgraded one cheap enough, and the tools to get the current radio out, then it's a plug out, plug in job in that model.

Probably not many of the upgraded Sony units available though as there weren't a very popular upgrade.

I think the upgraded Sony system also had Dolby logic which meant it had extra speakers and a sub fitted. I had it in my last Focus and it had 8 speakers iirc. The bog standard Focus/Mondeo had only 4 or 6 speaker afaik.

I've done the swap out in a new model Mondeo from the 6000 to the Sony 6CD (pain in the ass compared to the old model - all the centre console trim has to come off). That was just plug and play. We've a Titanium on our short term fleet that had the Sony 6 CD as standard and I don't think that has any additional speakers or sub, but I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure it would still work (did on the new model), but whether there is any benefit.....

Thanks for the replies guys. Just checking a few spec's online and am I right in saying the LX Steel is only 110ps? I took it for a quick spin earlier and it felt "lively" enough but I was in it on my own and didn't hammer it.

Is it a slow pig to drive with that weedy engine in it? :(

The LX or Steel model had the 1.8 litre 110bhp engine which is not great. I would try and find a Zetec or Platinum model, they had the 125bhp 1.8 litre engine which is way nicer to drive.

I had a mondeo years ago....just an 02 1.8LX. It was an ok car with an ok spec. It was red with hubcaps so it looked like an unmarked Garda car haha. Hated it when people said that to me..

Drove fine though and the climate control in it was lovely.

Are they completely different engines or just differently tuned? i.e., would it be possible to get the 125bhp out of the lx models?

AFAIK they are the same Duratec engine, so I assume it would be possible to have it retuned upwards?

Thats what i thought aswell. (i'm also looking at getting an lx mondeo so it was just athought). Anyone have any idea about a cost for such a retune, and whether its possible.

OP, sorry for slighly hijacking your thread.
