Breakdown query

A query or two someone might be able to help with.
My car broke down last week and my breakdown assistance covered the recovery. The garage came out and took the car on the truck-no effort to fix it. That was last monday. Monday evening the guy from the garage who towed it called to tell me it was the timing belt and said he would do a quote up for me and call back. I chased him all week for a quote and eventually he got back to me this morning. Within an hour I had gotten a quote for half amount. I'm just worried that when I go to get the car towed from his place to the other garage he's gonna try charge me for stuff. What can I expect in that regard. Someone mentioned storage charges but since he spent all last wk avoiding my calls and p**sing about I dont think I should have to pay him anything.

I take it the timing belt snapped? Did you get quotes to simply change the timing belt, or to repair the damage caused by a snapped belt? TBH, it's impossible to quote for the latter without stripping the head off the engine - the only certainty is that it will be expensive to the point where a new engine may be a better bet. If you're lucky enough to have a non-interference type engine you can disregard the above.

Well the guy who towed it gave me an estimate for the work. So i'm fairly sorted there. But what i'm worried about is if he's gonna try charge me for having the car at the garage this week while he stalled on giving me an estimate (he was able to tell me what was wrong last monday but only gave me an estimate today after I spent the week ringing!!) and also for looking at the car to see what the problem was.
