Ski Boots in Hand Luggage

    Hi all,

I know that different airports have different regulations regarding carrying your ski boots in your hand luggage or not.

Has anyone passed through Dublin Airport in the last few weeks with their ski boots in their hand luggage? Were there any problems?

I know I will have to put my boots in my check-in luggage coming back from Grenoble. But I like to carry everything I will need for skiing in my hand luggage - in case the airline lose my bag. Doesn't really matter on the way home.

    Thanks!

Flew out of Dublin on the 12th Jan... no problems (I rang twice to check) I was told if security stop you, ask for the supervisor on duty and they will clarify that they are allowed.
Came back through Memmingem, again no problem.

However I would continue to check every season as it could be liable to change.

I passed through Dublin airport with a pair of snowboard boots in my carry-on bag and someone else had their helmet and bindings attached to the outside of their bag and it was all grand.

No problem in Dublin on 26th Dec but Ryanair will get you if your ski boot bag doesn't fit in the rack. A regular ski boot bag will not fit. You need to find a bag where you can lay the boots down flat "head to tail".
There was a thread on all this a few weeks back.

Dublin Airport Security has absolutley no restriction on Ski Boots in Hand Luggage Slime Air use it as a money making excuse, Just keep them hidden and the over bearing trolly dollies will leave you alone

Just make sure you stow them away properly. Just back from 4 days in Montecampione with a group of ten, we stayed pretty incident free until disembarking at Dublin Airport when some numptys ski boots fell on my mates head, not good.

Had someones ski boot smack me in the head on the bus ride up the mountain when I was in NZ this "summer". One boot stayed in the overhead rack and the other swung down and smacked me right on the forehead. Luckily I had my helmet on at the time or I would have definitely been knocked out and a trip to hospital with a hole in my head.

The muppet that owned the boots then had to buy me beers in the bar that night so it wasn't all bad, but anyone stashing boots in the rack above my head after that got shouted at.

Hey, I'm flying to Lyon with Aerlingus on 12 March and I phoned Aerlingus to check policy. They said I can bring what ever bag I want as long as it is within cabin bag restrictions. They do not classify ski boots as a weapon or make you pay extra to put in hold.

Happy days. I will be stuffing my boot bag full of whatever I can fit into it! Have never learned to travel light, even after years of travelling!!

3 years back I was flying out of Birmingham having spent a few hours in the Snowdome. I had my boots as hand luggage to save on Ryan Air usual charges - going through security and they wouldn’t let me and my friend bring the boots on board as they were considered dangerous! Tried the usual reasoning with them but got nowhere.

So I had to walk back down to Ryan Air check in and pay the charge!

So I suppose what I'm saying is it pays to check in advance and not all airports let you bring them on board :)
