Hi buying a fisheye camera (most likely 35mm) as a present for girlfriend*
I'm looking at either the Lomographic Fisheye Number 2 Camera or the
Holga K200N. I'm leaning strongly towards the latter, since any reviews I've read have said the Lomo 2 is very over priced for its build quality (could buy 2nd hand rangefinder for that money), the Holga is also meant to have poor build quality but is significantly cheaper and having the fisheye lens detachable to me seems like a good bonus.
thoughts? Is the Lomo worth the extra money (for something that may not get used much, any other alternatives?)

*(this being her email address stupid goddamn hackers)

i have the lomo. build quality is bad... its plastic, as is holga tho in fairness. havent tried the holga, search flickr for both and check out the results, at the end of the day its about how the pics come out over the build when theyre both plastic

Hiya Sue345 :) did you buy any of them in the end? I'm in the same situation now except it's for the boyfriend. I haven't got a clue about photography, so it's sort of hard to make out what's good. He actually has some Nikon film camera ..I wonder could I also just buy an objective or different lense to give his camera that fish effect(really no clue :D )

I was also in Avoca today and they had the Fisheye No.2 Gold and Fisheye No. 2 ..both from lomography. Anyone know these ones?

Find out what type of camera he has. Don't bother with a crappy lomo fisheye. Made for suckers with more money than sense really.

Ah right, so you can actually buy objectives which do the fish effects then as an add on so … I think he has the Nikon F65 Camea one :)

You can probably get the sigma 15mm fisheye that would fit that and also work on a more modern digital camera too. I'm a canon user so cant give too much advice. I have the sigma and use it on my film and digital cameras. Pete4130 would be good to ask if you find him on here. He's a nikon user and loves his fisheye.

Hiya and sorry but like if I buy a common 35mm film for lomo what is then probably the best brand to buy? I'd like to get him everyting altogether in a present, so he can shoot off straight away :)

I used to sell the Holgas, and a dear friend of mine at least used to have a Lomo back in that day & age.
I'd say get a nice lens. I prefer my 10-17mm fisheye zoom lens.
If you're looking for the "light leaks" that you get in a Holga, then go for that. I don't believe the Lomo does that.
There is actually a line of Holgas now, as well, not just the "standard"one.
One note.. unless they've changed significantly since I sold them, the Holgas use 120 film, not 35mm. (I think the Lomo is 35mm)
