Since the introduction of squad numbers has a club fielded a team numbered 1 to 11? (excluding Man Utd in the 50th anniversary for Munich)

What is your club's current 1 to 11 and is it any good?

    This is Arsenal's.

    1. Almunia
    2. Diaby
    3. Sagna
    4. Fabregas
    5. Vermaelen
    6. Senderos
    7. Rosicky
    8. Nasri
    9. Eduardo
    10. Gallas
    11. Van Persie.

Not too shabby in my opinion and not too far off our strongest team.

    Would look like this

    Almunia
    Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Senderos
    Diaby
    Rosicky Fabregas Nasri
    Van Persie
    Eduardo

    This is Uniteds:

    Van Der Saar
    Neville
    Evra
    Hargreaves
    Ferdinand
    Brown
    Owen
    Anderson
    Berbatov
    Rooney
    Giggs

    or if you like...
    VDS
    Neville-Rio-Brown-Evra
    Hargreaves-Anderson-Giggs
    Owen-Berbatov-Rooney

If Ronaldo was still there at number 7 instead of Owen it would have been a pretty well organised team.

    Sunderland:

    1. Craig Gordon

    2. Phil Bardsley

    3. George McCartney

    4. Teemu Tainio

    5. Anton Ferdinand

    6. Nyron Nosworthy

    7. Carlos Edwards

    8. Steed Malbranque

    9. Frazier Campbell

    10. Kieran Richardson

    11. Darren Bent

Would it be any good? The simple answer is no.

A few of the players aren't even at Sunderland anymore or are out on loan. Edwards is now at Ipswich, Tainio is made of glass and is on loan at Birmingham and Nosworthy will more than likely move on loan today.

    It'd line-up like this:
    Gordon

    Bardsley Nosworthy Ferdinand McCartney

    Edwards Tainio Malbranque Richardson

    Campbell Bent
That team would certainly do very, very well to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

    1 Brad Friedel Goalkeeper
    2 Luke Young Defender
    3 Wilfred Bouma Defender
    4 Steve Sidwell Midfielder
    5 Richard Dunne Defender
    6 Stewart Downing Midfielder
    7 Ashley Young Midfielder
    8 James Milner Midfielder
    9 Marlon Harewood Striker
    10 John Carew Striker
    11 Gabriel Agbonlahor Striker

    This is Aston Villa's.

    Friedal
    Young Dunne Bouma
    Young Milner Sidwell Downing
    Agbonlahor Carew Harewood

It's not too bad and not far off the normal starting team but does have only 1 central defender.

    1 GK Shay Given
    2 DF Micah Richards
    3 DF Wayne Bridge
    4 DF Nedum Onuoha
    5 DF Pablo Zabaleta
    6 MF Michael Johnson
    7 MF Stephen Ireland
    8 MF Shaun Wright-Phillips
    9 FW Valeri Bojinov
    10 FW Robinho
    11 ??

Thats a decent starting 10,but then most of the players missing would be an even better starting 10

    .....................Given.....................
    Zabaleta...Richards...Onouha...Bridge
    ..........SWP...Johnson...Ireland.......
    .........Bojinov...Robinho...???.........

    Everton

    1. Carlo Nash

    2. Tony Hibbert
    3. Leighton Baines
    4. Joseph Yobo
    5. Johnny Heitinga
    6. Phil Jagielka

    7. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov
    9. Landon Donavan
    10. Mikel Arteta

    8. Louis Saha
    11. Jo (now gone to Galatasary).

So I reckon we could go for a 5-3-2 formation. Definitely not our best side. Only really 6 of those would be starters..

    1. Cavalieri
    2. Johnson

    4. Aquilani
    5. Agger

    8. Gerrard
    9. Torres

    11. Riera

Bit Weak in fairness.:) 2-3-1 formation is'nt the best for coverign the pitch, Torres would have to do an awfull lot of tracking back. Wonder can Cavalieri work as a fly?

But what if it was setup using the 'traditional' intepretation of the numbers?

    .............. Almunia
    Diaby Vermaelen Senderos Sagna
    ............. Fabregas
    .. Rosicky .. Nasri .. van Persie
    ............... Gallas
    .............. Eduardo

    ugggh!

(Don't even go near the old WM...)

The old championship managers had it numbered this way, must be true

Well, I've googled it and found sources for both! They were the left/right halves in the old WM so you could it's hard to argue a difference over which should be dropped back. 6 seems like more of a CB number to me though, having grown up seeing the likes of Baresi, Adams, Stam, Pallister etc wearing 6 and Vieira, Makelele etc number 4. Although I'm sure you can point to examples showing it the other way around too.

    Inter

    1. Francesco Toldo
    2. Ivan Cordoba
    4. Javier Zanetti
    5. Dejan Stankovic
    6. Lucio
    7. Ricardo Quaresma
    8. Thiago Motta
    9. Samuel Eto'o
    10. Wesley Sneidjer
    11. Sulley Muntari

Number is 3 retired in honour of Giacinto Facchetti.

    Toldo

    Cordoba----Lucio
    Zanetti

    Motta
    Muntari
    --Quaresma---Sneijder---Stankovic--
    Eto'o

Not a bad side, good balance of defense and attack, would beat most other Serie A sides even with a man down.
