Old IDE 2.5" laptop harddrives

    Does any one know where I can get two IDE harddrives to fit a laptop? They seam to be old technology and I can only find sata ones in the likes of pc world and currys. They are needed for two dell d600 that ive just bought on adverts.

    They still make them. WD have a few, so do Samsung and probably most of the other manufacturers. So just buy it online. ebay, komplett, amazon, wherever you want.

    Also remember to do some research into the 48-bit LBA issue, and whether or not the D600 supports it.

    I bought two 360GB IDE from Komplett recently. I prefere to buy them in pairs so if the controller card goes on one you can remove it from the other.

    i have an 80GB IDE drive for you that i'd be more than happy to give you for free if you PM me your details, i use it in a caddy at the moment as an external hard drive.

    i have a spare 160GB SATA drive also in a caddy so you can have the 80GB IDE one if you want? im in limerick if thats any use to you, or i can stuff it in a static bag and then a jiffy bag and send it to you... :)

    No thanks xsiborg, I actually don’t need it now. There was a mix up on adverts and a mod has deemed me not the first in line so I missed out of the laptops. In the mean time I’ve bought an x41 ThinkPad that I’m collecting tonight that needs a hard drive but it’s a rare 1.8" pata type with the connectors on its side instead of its top edge. Gotta find me one of those now instead! Thanks anyway for the offer, much appreciated.

    Sorry for butting in, but I'm looking for an IDE drive to fit into my HP laptop if it's still available - it was dropped and the hard drive is fecked...
