    Hi folks,

Car has been in garage for the last month (Jan) and road tax has expired since December. Can the garage supply some documentation (some form) to show that it has been off the road, so I can take it to my local Garda station to prove this and re-tax it from Feb onwards.

    Any help much appreciated

you can get a letter from the Garage..... but you will still need a garda to sign/stamp the form which declares that your car was off the road for the last month.

basically you can goto garda station and ask them to sign the form...or bring a letter from garage with you to prove its been off the road and ask them to sign the form.

then goto tax office and pay for next couple of months road tax

In my experience the guards never ask for proof the car was off the road, they always stamp the form, no harm to bring the letter but Doubt they will even look at it.

yep, have had to declare a car or two off the road, last one was a few months ago...
no problems no questions, filled in form and Garda signed it.......

I would say, I know they do some checks on their systems on the car reg you supply, so if it hasn't been off the road 100%... don't do it.. i.e has the garage had the car out on the road for test drives to fault find???

The cop is merely witnessing your signature. He's not certifying non use.

You don't need anything from the garage.
