Best lighting for a dressing table?`

I'm looking for some suggestions on the best way to light a dressing table.

We're putting the finishing touches to our new master bedroom, and have just installed a fitted dressing table in a 1M wide alcove to the right of the bed. (The dressing table is a walnut drawer + counter top floating between the two sides of the alcove). The alcove is about 37cm deep, and the countertop comes out to around 50cm to give enough space for work.

We're going to recess mini shelves into the two side walls of the alcove (which by good fortune are just plasterboard & studs), leaving the whole countertop area open and free, with a decent mirror on the back wall.

The recessed shelves will be about 20cm wide, leaving 6-8cm between the edge of the shelves and the back wall.

So my dilemna is what sort of lighting to install here to provide good light for makeup etc. while remaining discrete and not taking up much space on the wall.

TLC in the UK do the hollywood lighting strips which we actually had in our last house, and they're not bad but would be a little on the large side for this installation -- they also wouldn't really suit the style of the room.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Would LED lighting be appropriate here? Are there any places in Dublin that have good displays of this kind of lighting that we could see in situ?
