I recently started an evening course in a vec college. The lecturer has made up his own notes but says we have to give him €15 to buy them! Is this normal or allowed? Is this not covered in the course fees ive paid? I wouldnt mind but the diagrams are barely legible after being photocopied so many times.

Theres a break half way through and he suggests we go to the canteen and get some tea or coffee. Ok, good idea. They charge €1.50 there for a tiny cup of coffee. What a rip off. Everyones on the take.

You are f¥ckin kiddin me!? I would be freaking the Fu<k out If I were you. What a opportunistic bastard! It's part of his bloody job role as a lecturer to create suitable notes for the course! if he's lookin for material costs then a PDF in an email will suffice!

I'd be reporting him to the college AND I'd Be calling the department of education first thing in the morning! This is sooo outrageous I wouldn't stop til this ****er was fired and se genuine person with a passion for teaching was teaching that class!

    That is completely unacceptable.

Get on to management about this, utterly unethical and completely wrong.

Just thinking back on all the night courses I taught.....wow, I could have made a packet. :D

One one hand, I suppose it's a bit like buying a textbook, though these costs should be clearly set out when you enrol. On the other, if he's selling these notes as an "easier way" to understand the course it stinks of a rip-off and I'd be having a chat with the management/VEC.

Thermos flask and sandwiches are an easy way to get around this :)
