Am pondering a nationwide sales role at the moment but not sure if its for me. So far I have had the first interview but would like to know if its for me before I go for the second.

I have no experience whatsoever in sales and would be interested in hearing whats required. All my past positions have been office 9-5 jobs.
What characteristics are good/essential in a sales person?
Any input on sales as a profession would be appreciated as I am pretty clueless.:)

    Hey,

I have worked in Sales for a good number of years. It depends on what product you're selling to tell you if it's an easy sell or not. If it involves cold calling and you have no sales experience, my advice would be to not touch it!

Do you know what product you're selling?

    Will it be cold calling?

Will you have to make your own appointments etc

First thing is to have product knowlege, you should have a pleasant personality, be a good listener as to make a sale unfortunately you often have to listen to sh1te talk from the customer but that comes with the territory, be 110% honest, never make claims that are not true. A good saleperson can stretch the truth but always in a way that it is plausible. Stick to deadlines for delivery. You need to follow up an order even if that means working outside normal hours. Depending on what field you get into will detremine the level of knowledge you must accumulate. technical sales are more involved. Biggest mistake people make us trying to make technical sales without technical background and then bluffing. Caught out immediately

I have a fairly solid technical background in the area but am wondering if I would find sales too much of a stretch.
I have been hearing mixed reviews from people who have worked in similar roles, I suppose mainly that initially its very tough but after time gets easier.

Thanks for the comments-I want to make a decision in my head and am trying not to be too picky in todays climate thus exploring sales.
