    Hello

I'm looking for a new laptop and I want to get peoples opinions of good laptops.

I want one with a good graphics card as I'm probably going to show potential customers computer generated video of a new product I'm developing.

Any recommendations? I was thinking of spending 600-1000 euro and I'm not fussy on the make.

    Thanks

    Crem.

Hi. Just to be clear on this, at the moment you are using some authoring package on (presumably) a decent spec. PC to pre-render a video scene and you wish to take this on the road to show to clients.
If this is the case, your laptop just needs to be able to play back high-res video which is not too demanding a task.
If you want to do the actual pre-rendering on the laptop, then that's a different story. What kind of hardware are you using at the moment to do this?

    Hi Darwin,

you are correct, I'll only be showing the video, somebody else will be doing the rendering etc. - I just want the video to look good on the laptop when customers look at it.

I've got a 4 year old Dell Inspirion 6400 so I'm due an upgrade. plus the battery is shot (it was working fine until I got a Dell notice it was due for replacement, and since then it's been ****)

I suppose a computer with a good battery life would also be a plus.

    Thanks

HP laptops are quite stylish/snazzy IMHO, and they are quite reasonably priced, great multimedia laptops with lots of connectivity options for if you'll be connecting it to an HDMI tv on site.

i just also remembered my wife's sony vaio, if the idea of a completely red laptop floats your boat? (they come in various colors, but my wife liked the metallic red).

    my laptop: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/HP_Pavilion_Media_Center_dv9565ea_Entertainment_GS461EA-ABU/version.asp
(it's about three years old at this stage, i've since upgraded the RAM to 4GB and the hard drives to two 500GB WD's)

    my wifes laptop: http://www.sony.ie/product/vn-cs-series/vgn-cs21s-v
i liked the metallic blue myself but limited external monitor connectivity options (VGA out only!)

Well given your budget I would go for something with the new Intel Core processors. The Core i3 is available in laptops now, the Samsung R580 ticks all the right boxes (Core i3, 512MB dedicated Nvidia graphics, 3GB RAM, Windows 7). There is a better spec version of the same laptop which you might be able to get for a similar price, for example here. If you don't fancy a Samsung, take your pick from one of these, all sporting Core i3 processors.

I think a 15" display is a reasonable compromise between portability and a largish display which would be nice to impress your customers. Hope some of that helps.
