    Hi,

Part of my planning (renovation) is to decommision the existing septic tank and connect the sewerage to the main sewer which runs past my house but across the other side of the main road.

My question is who should I contact about this or how do I go about it? I have the pipes going from my house to just inside my front wall but its now time to start connecting them. I presume I need a licenses and also a digger driver but do I contact the county council to find out?

    I'm in County Limerick

    Thanks
    J

Go to the roads department of the council and ask for a road opening licence. You will need to fill out a form and they will work out the cost. You will also need a sewer connection from sanitary services, you will need to fill out a form and they will tell you the cost there. Then the local area engineer will be contacted and you will need to talk to him/her and coordinate works.

If this is a main carriageway you may need to liaise with the Gardaí to regulate traffic flow.

If its a minor road with the far side bounded by fields you may need to talk to the landowner opposite.

Country titles always seem to go beyond the field boundary to the middle of the road and you should ask your local solicitor about this.

If this a self build and the digger driver is direct labour to you then you are the contractor under the health and safety legislation.

    ONQ.
