The man accused of masterminding the September 11 attacks is likely to be executed after being tried and convicted, the White House says.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is yet to face trial with four other alleged co-conspirators, but White House spokesman Robert Gibbs revealed his fate, if found guilty.

Mr Gibbs went on to tell US news channel CNN: "The Obama administration has begun looking for places other than the heart of New York City to prosecute Mohammed and four alleged co-conspirators in the face of fierce criticism tied to security and costs."

Well what do you think about this?

No doubt there be plenty protests about it.

Myself, I think execution is too easy on the fecker.

I don't know what to believe what with the recent revelation from the two Irish carpenters in the twin towers on the day 9/11 attacks.
They were hanging doors for an investment firm on that day and a witness overheard one saying...

I do not know why the Americans are making a martyr out of him by execution him. They will turn him into a much bigger hero for the extremist. A good dark deep dungeon in maximum security jail is good for him and let him die as an old pathetic broken man there.

Oh great, lets make martyrs out of them... fcuking idiots. Lock them up instead... If they are found guilty that is. Although, even before there is a trial, they seem to be held responsible either way. Scapegoats?

I agree. It's better for guys like these to be locked up and forgotten than to be executed and remembered for a long time. It'll only be used as propaganda by the extremists.

Firstly, I do not agree with the death penalty under any circumstances.

Secondly, looks like a completely transparent move to get the desired sentence by moving out of NY state which has no death penalty. The trial should be in the state where the attack happened imho.

Once he was finished with by the security services he should have been shot and dumped and forgotten about. Same goes for the rest of them. Look at what his buddies have done to many innocent people.

Am I the only one who saw Jim Corr last night. I mean according to him it was an inside job. Surely we need to take this more seriously.

He should be put in a maximum security prison cell for the remainder of his life. He will die forgotten. If he is executed he will die a martyr and will be seen as a hero by his people.

its going to be a federal trial i imagine seen as the attack took place over more than one state and therefore state law dosnt come into it. you can be sentenced to death for commiting a federal crime(say treason) no matter what state you commit it in

Saddam was different in that he had little to no followers (or extremist followers) left at the time of his execution.

Maybe it should be "Alleged Iraq Masterminds May Face Execution". Collateral damage comparable, no?....

Saddam Hussein was hated by most of his own people, very few if any saw him as a hero. He was a dictator of a country. This man in question was the mastermind behind a huge terrorism plot.

Big difference between the two. Both killed innocent people but the difference is one was almost universally hated and the other has followers who would see his execution as being some kind of martyrdom.

Who is saying he is a William Wallace figure? No one. Also Hussein was no religious zealot, he was a brutal dictator of a secular country. Why would he therefore be made into a martyr? For the record I thought his hanging was anything but civilized.

If he's guilty, he's nothing more then a common criminal.

Public trial in local court house (which happens to be a couple of blocks east of WTC site), followed by if appropriate verdict an injection of lethal drugs.

No secret torturing in an off shore prison, justice can bee seen to be done in a public fashion.

They did it for Mir Aimal Kasai for murdering two CIA officers in virgina, they can do it to him.

Of course the posibility of making him a martyr is there, why wouldn't it be? He won't be my martyr, but he may still become one.
