A thread that will forever be repeated throughout history...

My current setup is very minimal. Running a mac with Logic 8, an Alesis i0|2 as my interface with the worst pair of monitors I've ever heard!

Basically I'm looking for reasonably priced DAW controller for logic for control over my mixes and would ideally like it to double as a sound card, nothing mad. 2 XLR's/Line Ins and midi I/O. Sick of mouse and keyboard, driving me up the walls!

As for monitors I've been looking at KRK Rokit 5's. Any thoughts/opinions/alternatives in this price range?

    Much appreciated, thanks!

    Z

What's your budget for the controller? Novation have a few cheap and cheerful controllers as in a few hundred Euro.

I have a Novation Remote compact SL that I use as a midi keyboard. It also acts as a controller for Logic but it's a PITA to use as a controller so it's back to the mouse for me.

The Euphonix controllers look great but I couldn't justify spending that kind of money.

Would love to hear what others are using with Logic.

I could prolly spend a few hundred, not more then 4/5 I'd say tho I'd be happier in the lower end of that say 2/3 if possible.

Not trying to pull a fast one but im selling this on adverts although it might be a little higher spec than what your looking for. Am currently using it with logic9

Its a great interface and controller. Even if its not what your after its gives you an idea of whats out there.http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=182609&cat=55

Either way good luck with it.

Thanks alan, was actually looking at it earlier! Looks great but probably a bit OTT for my needs!

If you look at from the perspective of getting superior results I'd be more inclined to forget the controller and invest all in a reasonable set of monitors instead.

However there are a whole heap of variables there so excuse me if I'm off the mark.

You are right about the monitors but as it stands long hours with a keyboard and mouse are quite tedious and fatigue sets in much quicker for me. Was working off a controller not so long ago and it was great being able to chill during a mix instead of being all hunched over squinting at the mouse cursor!

With regards to the Rokit 5's, are they 'unreasonable' monitors or just plain ****e? Don't wana go wasting my money on something that isn't fit for its purpose!

    What would be considered good?

I agree. However much more important is the ability to hear what's going on, or at least getting closer to that.

To my mind there's not much point in investing in a controller, which doesn't necessarily improve the final product, without investing in decent monitors, which I believe, will.

+1 on the monitors! These are causing a lot of the fatigue, I would say.
