Video freezing, sound continuing in Karmic

This incredibly annoying bug has cropped up a few days after updating to Xubuntu Karmic -namely videos keep freezing while the sound continues. It's happening in smplayer and firefox for flash/mpeg playback. I'm guessing pulseaudio has something to do with it, but have no understanding of sound engines or where I should be looking to fix this.

Sorry I've no advice but can only add to say I had this problem as well.

I'm on a first time HTPC build which I've got Karmic running on. I found at the weekend that when watching a .mkv file in movie player that the video would lag after a while and the audio would keep going, putting them out of synch. Once I stopped movie player and restarted I'd be able to watch the same scene again with no problems.

I was a little worried that my hardware wasnt good enough but when I watched another .mkv last night it played fine with no problems so hopefully that rules out my harware being the problem.

(incidentally I've found that if I watch a movie using xbmc, i cant close it once it's finished....veeeery annoying)

Could be SMPlayer, happens to me a few times, the developer on the site said to change the graphics driver from gl or whatever to something else, or update to the latest non-repo mplayer build (which is what smplayer uses), does the same thing happen in Totem or VLC?

I haven't tested for long enough in totem or vlc but it does happen in firefox, playing mpeg videos on youtube.

I'll try the non repo smplayer to see is it any more cop.

    Cheers.

Nah, same story. I've also got an ugly, massssive black cursor that flashes on nearly all websites and my tv tuner hasn't worked since the upgrade. Might as well go back to Jaunty really, or try out mint.

Yeah, about three or four times on this issue, but it just got overlooked.
