Hello, just wondering if anyone has any experience of building on a site which faces south onto the road, so north facing back garden. (not the ideal aspect). Thinking of u-shape with low roof on the front to allow the south sun to shine over into a courtyard and back wing. not sure if this would work. Anyone have any similar experience?

    every site is different....

personally i would have main open plan living spaces running front to back along the west wall..... possibly with a small front gable if morning sunlight required...

Just completed a south facing house with back totally north facing. Its rectangular in shape with a high pitch roof due to upstairs living space.

We set the house as far to the North as possible which gives sun light to the east and west and front. I know the back can be a bit dull but its where we keep the services and shed etc.

Take advantage of being south facing like we did with solar pannels, spacious rooms allowing extra light and the right windows will make a massive difference.

Make the most of the east and west sides as they can be attractive decking areas or patio areas especially if you have french doors on the gable ends.

    Any Q's let me know.
