bmw battery?

    hey guys,
    i was just putting petrol into the car earlier and when i came back out to start the car, the battery light came up. Luckily I had a battery pack in the boot and it started. I've never had any trouble with the battery in 2 years. When i got home i turned off the engine again and the headlamps went straight off as opposed to dimmed. obviously batt gone again. But now ive noticed when i try to start engine, its coming up oil service beside the odometer. I have been thinking over last 3 or 4 days that car needs to be topped up with oil. could it be a safety feature because of low oil? or is batt just knackerd?

    Battery problem, could be battery or could be alternator not charging battery.
