Freeview advice needed

    Hello
I've been looking at replacements for my dead DVD recorder. I see many models come with a built-in Freeview box. So I'm thinking I could upgrade to get some satellite channels as well.

But I'm confused by the satellite options - and yes I have done a search to try to puzzle it out.

In addition to the DVD recorder I want BBC, More4, Film4. I don't need sports channels - Sky or Setanta. Eurosport would be nice but not priority. I don't need surround sound or HD
I do NOT want to pay any subscription.

Please could I have some pointers or recommendations?
    - Will Freeview or Freesat be best?
    - Will any standard dish be suitable.
    - Is there a registration fee in addition to the cost of the Freeview box.

    Many thanks
    David

Freeview is no good to you, as its for england...you need a freesat Or sat4free to be built in. You will require a 6ocm dish for proper reception for your area.

A good box would be a foxsat...or any fta box such as Technomate 5200d super that you can add a usb connected extrernal hd.

Eurosport is subscription based in the uk and ireland but can be received I think free from Astra1 which is mostly german channels.

Or Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, (& parts of the the Republic too)! including the border counties & parts of the east coast (including Arklow).

I suspect that you are too far from the Welsh transmitter to receive 'Freeview', so a dish is the only option 4 you in Cork.

Free to Air (FTA) or Freesat ......

    Good luck.

    Thanks (belated). That's very useful.
I had the mistaken notion that freeview could be used just by entering a UK postcode
