Traveling or Working?

    Going unreg, just incase...

As the topic title says, should I go traveling or take the job?

I've been unemployed since finishing college about a year and a half ago, like many. Plan was to go traveling with my girlfriend and 3 others, unemployment meant saving was slow. 2 of the others have backed out for personal reasons and I then got a place in college offered to up skill in the area I had previously studied. College wont finish until may/june and the 3 of us were thinking of going away then in the summer, would have to borrow money/student loan for it.

Now the job bit. I got a call recently from a recruiter for a big company asking me was I still looking for work and if I would be interested in a job or at least going through the interview process. Seems they are having a hard time recruiting people with the skills they are looking for. Told him I was in college and he was willing to put me forward for an interview with the outlook on starting after I finish college. Don't know much about the job but it's customer service, I have experience in the field they provide the service to, and I've heard it pays pretty well.

One the one hand there's go traveling and hope jobs are less scarce when we come back a year from now. Then on the other hand, a job is money and I can save for a year and go traveling then. Can always quite the job if it turns out to be crap.

I'd go for the job for a year. You'll be able to save more money for travelling, and you won't have a massive debt to repay once you come back.

If you're hoping on there being more jobs in a years time, it's likely there will be more again in two years time.

Don't believe the recruitment agencies. They always advertise jobs that are supposedly coming up.

When you're in your first real job saving can be impossible. You'll think "well I was a student for so long, I'm used to scrimping." But then you'll get a paycheque and start buying things you couldn't afford before, and if you still have your student lifestyle of going out a few times at the weekend you might find it harder to save than you think.

I can see the logic in getting a job and saving for a year, but you're only young once. Once the loan is small and you're travelling on a shoestring for a short period of time ... i'd nearly suggest travelling first :)

I'd just go with the flow for now. Go for interviews, and see how you get on. If you change your mind you dont have to take the job. But I wouldn't go putting all my eggs in one basket until you know for sure, i.e. visa approved, ticket(s) purchased.

Also its not a be all and end all decision, if this summer doesn't happen, theres always next summer and the summer after that and the summer after that and the summer aft..........................................

I say go travelling. I started working way too young and although I've got a really good job now I'd still love to head off travelling for several months. Ah, just to win the lotto!

I'd suggest going traveling, I was in a similar situation before and you think you'll travel after but something will come up. I did manage to squeeze a month of travel in but i barely had a tan lol.
theres the very real possibility the person is talking through her arse, sorry just hate recruiters, check to see if its telecommunications in your field because thats soul destroying, i'd sooner suggest teaching english abroad if you need money to get by while abroad.
