    My father has a 1981 Jetta 1.6 diesel, he's the ower from new.
    Would there be much interest in restoring this? It only came off the road back in 2000. Has god knows how many miles on the original engine & gearbox...

    My father had an 81 Diesel one of these too,grand old cars,not hugely powerfull,or hasnt great brakes,but i havnt seen one for years.Ours rusted horribly as it was english originally.
    Have you any pics of it?Id like to see what it looks like.

    yes but you could get similar results with a mk1 jetta!

    Salty roads was what everyone blamed it on,it was rotten,rear axle pulled off its mountings.
