    Hey,

I am looking to buy a factory unlocked iPhone 3G or 3Gs (any suggestions on where to get!)

I am wondering can I arrange a repair via the usual apple website & ups combination or will it have to be sent to the country it was brought from?

    Cheers

I'm not sure exactly what the story is now since the phones are no longer tied to one carrier, but I doubt it has changed much since I got my 3g last year.

As you probably know some in some countries all phones have to be sold unlocked as well as with carriers. I got mine from a seller on eBay who bought unlocked phones in Slovakia and posted them around the world. I've heard that there are people who do the same from France but they're a bit more expensive.

I had to get the phone repaired while it was still under warranty, which I mistakenly presumed wouldn't be too difficult. It was a disaster that involved the phone being sent to Slovakia and back to me without ever getting fixed. I won't go into the details because I could write a book on it if I got started. Basically the warranty is only valid in the country the phone is originally bought, and you need an address there at the very least. In Slovakia you also need to personally bring it to the apple repair centre. So basically it's not covered by apple, and they won't even repair it in Ireland if you pay for it. But there are loads of companies who repair them well around, so it's not that much of an issue as long as you know where you stand.

Thanks for that. Did you try requesting a repair via apple.com ?

Can I get my iPhone serviced outside the country of purchase?
No, service for eligible repairs is only available in the country where your iPhone was originally purchased.

Yeah there's nothing you can do to get them to repair outside the original country. And you can't even just post it to their repair center in the other country, you need to have an address there where they can deliver it to.

There are some really good 3rd party repair companies though.
