spraying over guitar finish

    need some advice,
    my mate gave me a cheap encore strat for a bit of a project,
    but to save time, would i be able to just spray over the original finish?
    rather than sanding it down etc.

    That's what I did to my old Squier strat. Doesn't look great, but I didn't expect it to... If you want it to look in anyway decent, put the work in and do it properly.

    how many coats did you apply?
    and also, what kind of paint?

    I used Montana spray paint, generic graffiti art paint. I can't remember how many coats - enough until it's 'done'? I don't think paying so much attention is necessary - it's never going to look good if you do it this way.

    There hav ebeen sevral threads on boards about this type of subject, if you od a quick search for guitar refinishing Im sure you will find them, there were some helpful tips in them and some good links too.
