O2 Huawei E1752 Modems, Bad batch

I bought an O2 modem in Dublin on Wedensday, when I started it up, it keeps opening up the O2 Homepage every 20 seconds, so you end up with with multiple O2 tabs/pages open. So I called tech support, they said they never heard of it before and after 30 minutes on the phone told me to go to the store and get another modem.

When I went to the store, and they tested it there, it had the same problem, after that they tried another modem(same model)on my and their computer, and it done the same. So there must be a bad batch of these modems..

The woman who was serving only solution was to get a different modem, one of the more expensive models. Which annoyed me, because why should I have to pay more for O2's problem with faulty modems. I got a bit pissed off they should of gave me the better modem for no extra cost. So I canceled my account with them.

Normally I would of paid the extra 20 or 30euro for the more expensive Modem. Being Irish we seem to take this kind of crap easily..

If you are getting O2 broadband with the standard Huawei E1752 modem be sure to ask them to test it first...

    Martin.

I have same problems as Martin, the o2 connection software keeps opening multiple homepage every 30 seconds. I rang tech support and they are aware of the problem and are "actively" trying to solve the problem. Its a problem with the E1752 modem. They asked for my modem no and mobile no. and will call me when they have it fixed.

I will give them a day or two and if not resolved will bring back modem for replacement or money back. (Bought the modem in Galway 59 euro prepay).

Take Martins advise and get them to check the modem first in store.

    Cheers,
    Leo.

PS also got a E220 modem online for someone else and it works perfectly, 19 euro.

Folks Ive tried the fix e1752 but what is bugging me is still when logon for first time the o2 broadband start register page comes up still instead of home page.
I am using Mozilla 3.6 newest version as default search engine .Are there any issues with this modem with acer emachine e520 as it seems to be doing some very strange things when I use this e1752 modem with e520 the laptop freezes and goes either all white or all red .I have reloaded xp so not xp problem virus etc .Now it maybe a coincidence and laptop has graphics card issue or motherboard but it works perfectly when on wireless network and usb ports on laptop seem fine external drives work grand on usb ports .Alos sometimes when switch on e520 with modem plugged in it switches off after few seconds. With modem out no problems starting up or white screen/red screen problem .just thought Id let you all know in case someone comes across issue in future .
    cheers,
    Pat

i bought an o2 modem the €59.99 one. i dont know anything about computers and stuff so if anyone can help me it'd be great.
The modem connects and everything but its causing some kind of computer problems the laptop is freezing and cant connect to the internet, or open word files. I installed microsoft security and spybot after the broadband and when they eventually managed to download and run they found 13 problems and said they had sorted them out. However the problem was still there.
Someone suggested resetting the computer to a safe point. so i did that and it uninstalled the broadband and everything is fine now.
So i have a modem that is outside of the 7 days return time and I dont know if its safe to try installing it again as i dont want anything to happen to the laptop. Has anyone else had a problem like this. O2 say the modem is fine and wont take it back.
Any ideas for a safe way to install it or anything i've a useless modem right now.

Hi it sounds like your winsock settings could have corrupted by virus ,
what I would recommend to do is visit friends house download www.malwarebytes.org and update database and run a scan
Also buy license for www.avira.com the avira security suite and try doing scan for anything else left over on system ,dont bother any microsoft security suite product has always been rubbish and always will ,remove that as well if you haven't already .Let us know how you get on you might need to reset winsock settings if you are using windows xp here's link to do that ,

Thanks for this Daryll. Funny enough I was onto O2 technical staff today who told me that there was a bad batch of these Modems and he gave me those links over the phone but they don't work in any browser, so I was lucky enough to find this post.
Also if you click on the .ini file it just opens a page with the info on it, meaning that it's not down-loadable.
I copy/pasted the info into Notepad and saved it as switchport.ini so I'm hoping that that will work?

Anyway I'll see if it works when I get home. Hope this helps others. Cheers!

LATER EDIT: Yes that patch sorted it. So if anybody else has problems with it, save the three files that Daryll posted all in the same Folder.
So make a new folder on Desktop or wherever, and also do what I did with the .ini file.
    Cheers! :D
