Just watched the interview there on rte player and he came across really well, its refreshing to see someone on the late late without a book or film to promote....

That was one of the best late late interviews for a while! Hilarious! When he was talking about DOC and the ducks and "Pinchy" the lobster and putting a fag in his claws! Classic! Great to see a guy like that being so honest and not full of ****e. Most if not all of our rugby stars are like this and some of the soccer boys could take a leaf.

Slightly off topic, but Limerick's Live95FM Saturday's sport's programme did a decent interview with Marcus Horan on his return to rugby after his recent illness/surgery. It was certainly a scary time for him and his family.

    Welcome back Marcus.

what a brilliant interview! wasn't expecting that he got over 500 in the LC and was studying computer engineering! (I'm not implying that I thought he was thick before hand!)

brilliant when he said "that's bout 410 points more that DOC got in his LC!"

    classic! :D

Pretty much every single one of our pro rugby players (I'm sure there's an exception??) finished education at a secondary level and the majority would have gone on to 3rd level for a while at least (plenty don't finish when decent pro contracts get offered).

The level of education they get greatly explains why they are a better intervew than soccer players, the vast majority of whom left school at 15/16 with completing the leaving cert. The build up to the two sports is vastly different, especially in Ireland where schools rugby is a massive part of players early life and development.

Yeah, there's an element of stunted development with some sports people.

I listened to an interview with Brian Moore on radio 4 the other day. He gave an excellent interview too. Very articulate. Rugby players tend to be.

Of course, Roy Keane's interviews are interesting too.

Absolutely. I'm not saying soccer players by rule and stupid or incapable of provding an insightful interview but people often give out about the cliched sh*te most of them come out with. They ignore the fact that most are guys educated up to barely a junior cert level due to the nature of how the sport works in the majority of cases.

With rugby, it also helps that speaking effectively to groups can have a massive influence in terms of attitude and motivation. Senior players like O'Connell and O'Driscoll are used to speaking to squads and getting points across. This will then lend itself when they are interviewed themselves (not that O'Driscoll isn't known to throw out the odd cliche himself!!)

Did anyone feel as if Paul came across as "innocent" and "soft"?From seeing him on the field of play you would imagine him to be a real hardman, front on and in your face.He didnt come across like this Friday night and I felt Tubrity and the audience seemed to be laughing at him rather than with him.

    PS.PAUL O CONNELL IS A LIVING LEGEND!
