Ok so I have decided to update my CV with a new format and add some more stuff that needs putting in...

I am using the format that they give you on http://www.educationposts.ie/resources/standardapplicationforms/ as I like how it looks when I have all my details in. Just one thing is getting at me, on the top right hand corner there is a part that says
    "Insert digital photograph
    HERE
This is not obligatory but it does enhance your CV"

Is this true and has anyone else done this? is it the done thing? I have never done it before but my contract is ending soon and I'll need to be sending out CV's so I'd like to know... There is a post on work and jobs and the views are "only in Europe" but I'm looking for advice on my CV for schools.

Should I put it in or leave it out?? thanks :D

I think that adding a photo is a must these days in our modern digital camera age. I would even go one step further and attach a couple of other nice color photographs, such as in the classroom, in a business suit or with a group of friends, etc to show that you are both serious at your job but also a fun person to be with. Always worked for me.

When people are hiring they want to know who they are looking at. It's only natural and I think you shouldn't be put off by it at all.

I don't believe it's necessary. You should be judged on the merits of your CV, not what you look like.

Helps when they pick someone, it's not about how well you look but identification.

Would you leave any other part of the application out? Would you leave out your education or employment history or your references if asked? Then why your photo?

I think the same for inserting photos when requested just as much as anything else they have asked for.

this what I was thinking, I was going to be putting in a passport style photo, not one of my ones from a night out with the girls!! :D

It's not an application form for a specific job. Its just a format for doing up my CV. If a school or company or whoever specified that I insert a picture, I would for sure, but this is just my regular CV, to send out to schools for advertised positions...

thanks for all your comments so far.

I heard before it was illegal for an employer to ask for a photo with your CV but I have also seen advert's on the paper for a job that requested potential employees to send a picture with their CV!

    It confusing!

You shouldn't be asked for a photo. As far as I am aware its not allowed by law unless the employer can show that it was essential for the job, only example i can think of is if they were hiring an actor for a part and needed to match eith character.

Well I can confirm for definite Jack&Jones asked for a photo from applicants when they opened a certain store in 2004.

    Why the big discussion?
Surely it's not gonna do your application any harm, and could possibly be a good thing, so then, why not do it!!!!
EdPosts, consisting of teachers & principals have already said it helps, so why not just do it?
Do you look like an axe murderer?

Basically, I can't see any negatives.
    The positives:-
They have a bunch of CV's. They all look the same. They've no way of telling CV's apart. Atleast on your CV, they'll see a pic of you. Might make you stand out, might make your CV more memorable to them, might make them feel they 'know' you a little more than the other blank cvs. They see your pic & you look nice & presentable.

Or, say for casual subbing. The have a bunch of CV's. Yours has a pic on it. (The rest don't). They call you, you get a days subbing. Then, a month later (& you weren't terrible), they need a sub. How do they remember you our of all their other cvs? They see your pic & they say, didn't we have her in here before? Give her a ring. Without the pic, they might just not have remembered you were there before.

    So again, what's to lose?
Your job's about to end, you want to give yourself the best chance of securing employment, so stick in a photo.

What if they just don't like the look of you?
