career prospects in history

    doing the leaving cert and wondering if there were any career prospects whatsoever in history??? and does anyone know just how difficult it is to become a lecturer in history...?

    lol there aren't many career prospects directly related to history, the main ones would be jobs like curators. Indirectly maybe journalism, teaching, stuff like that. To become a lecturer you'll need to do a BA, an MA or MLitt, and a PhD. That's 8 or 9 years of study, maybe more. For some that isn't difficult for others it is. After that however there are only a limited number of history departments in the country and thus a very limited number of jobs available, so you most likely would not go directly from doctorate to lecturer.
