    Hi,

    I have a 01 E200 Kompressor auto, currently getting 13.3l/100km, or 22MPG according to a conversion website.

It's all city driving, but I still think this is a little heavy.Anybody got one? What are ye getting out of them in city conditions?

I drive an auto W210 and in the City I get 20-25 mpg. Long motorway runs the best I can hope for is about 35mpg

Fook me, I didn't realise they were that bad.

Suppose it is a heavy ass 2.0l turbo with an auto box.

Off I go to take a few pics so and stick it up on carzone:o

    It's got a blower, not a turbo.

I like it. Big, comfy and if you're not doing mad mileage it's worth it. Also as Henry said it's a charger not a turbo :D

The one I drive is also an E200 Kompressor Auto

    Oh ok I thought a Kompressor was a turbo:o
    Much difference??

Yeah I gotta say it's comfy as, can't fault it, and I do feck all mileage so it aint the worst I suppose.
Only 60k miles on it too so she'll go forever.

Also has a 6-disc changer in the boot, power going to it but when I try to eject the cartridge it makes some sort of movement but doesn't come out.
    Common problem?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

No idea there, probably a stuck clip or something. Mine just pops out when I press the little green button

Same basic principle ...but a kompressor gets driven directly by the engine, so it's always on ...the turbo is powered by the pressure of the exhaust gases, it needs time and revs to spool up

    Keep it then!

Compressor = Supercharger, so takes some engine power. Still get loads more than a normally aspirated engine, though. Afaik they are simpler/more reliable than turbos?

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharger
A supercharger is an air compressor used for forced induction of an internal combustion engine.....The term 'supercharger' usually refers to any pump that forces air into an engine, but, in common usage, it specifically refers to pumps that are driven mechanically by the engine, as opposed to 'turbochargers' which are always turbine-driven by the pressure of the exhaust gases.

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kompressor
Kompressor, a badge used by Mercedes-Benz for their supercharged engines

    Kompressor = German for supercharger

It is only me that thinks 22mpg is pretty good for driving around a city? I had a 2.0 Alfa 166 that used to do 30 mpg max on a cruise but would average 15 mpg daily around dublin.

+1. We should talk about hpg (hours per gallon) rather than mpg when talking about city driving!

...I get 23mpg out of my 3.0 968 Tip on a commute, 29mpg on a spin, so low 20's is kinda the norm for.........'not normal' cars, I'm guessing.........

True that , I knew what I was getting into alright. I was just expecting a little bit better though.

My mate has a 03 CL500, and the last time I looked at his dash he was averaging 19 MPG. There's feck all difference there between the 5.0 V8 and my measly 2.0 pup.If I could afford the tax I'd go for something like that, it's a joy to drive and the luxury is second to none.

Then again I'm hoping he was just back from a nice long motorway run before I saw that MPG reading.:p

Yup. It's a crazy myth (that big engines use massive amounts of fuel) that only seems to live in Ireland.

All my big V8 petrol automatic cars have done around 20MPG on average with a lot of Dublin city driving. The car I drive most at the moment, a Rover 75 1.8 petrol manual, does late 20s at best.
