    Marseilles

A very different city to Paris - go for the weather, the med, great seafood

Probably not much help but they are all fantastic cities with much to offer. If I had to choose one though I'd go for Bordeaux

Bordeaux or Lyon, avoid Marseilles like the plague. Nice in spots really, dreadful in others, not worth the effort.

I have not been to Marseille, so have no opinion to offer on it. Bordeaux and Lyon are both very good destinations, and I would find it difficult to choose one ahead of the other. Right now, if I was forced to pick, I'd say Lyon. If I came back to this thread tomorrow I might say Bordeaux. Between those two, there isn't a bad choice.

Why not set up a project for yourself: visit them all in turn, and form your own judgement.

Depends what you want. Marseilles is very lively -- you can get a good night out, and mean arabic food. But Lyon is definitely more beautiful, and more friendly, and that's where I'd recommend.

If you are planning this around cheap flights to Marseilles give Aix-en-Provence a visit.
