    I was wondering if anyone could please recommend a good garage in Galway City where I could be sure that they can fix (and test!) my emissions. My car failed the NCT this week 1.10% CO at high idle and 238ppm HC at high idle.

    Thanks

    GC->Motors
    Advanced pitstop should be able to do it for you.

    And Galway car service centre www.galwaycarservicecentre.ie

    Thanks for that Magnus. Advance Pitstop is closer to my side of the city, so I'll get in touch with them next week

    Don't go near Advance Pitstop in Galway, you might as well bring it to a butcher! Try AKAT in Oranmore, behind the Maldron Hotel, they specialise in NCT repairs.

    Car passed the re-test last night. I brought it to Galway Car Service Centre where they were very professional and reasonably priced (I thought) and sorted it all out for me. So thanks for the advice :)

    Also, as a side note, I was issued a two-year NCT cert even though my car is 00. I was expecting a one-year cert as my car is now 10 years old. Anyone know if this has come in yet? I have a few friends with 00 cars who would be interested to know!

    Maz-G - what was wrong with your car that they could fix? My car failed the CO on high idle too and the toyota garage cant find anything wrong, its a 00 so im shocked that it'd be just failing without good cause. they've recommended using the additive in the petrol....a bit of a cop-out in my opinion so not impressed!

    Hi Ryan

    My car (also a 00 Toyota - Corolla in my case) was buring oil. The first attempt that was made to reduce the emissions was an oil change, new filter and an oil 'treatment'. This didn't work, so a new catalytic converter had to be fitted. The whole thing cost me less than €300, so I was happy enough with that. I know a few other people who've had Corollas from the same period, and they've all tended to burn oil. I deal with it by topping up regularly, but that doesn't appease the emissions test at the NCT. Galway Car Service Centre have the equipment to test the emissions, so I knew heading into the retest that it had been fixed.

    Best of luck getting yours sorted.

    Maz :)
