Panasonic Lumix TZ6 or TZ7 - fantastic zoom range, which is handy for composing your pictures without moving!

Seconding the Lumix range or a Canon G11 if you have the cash.

Lumix use Leica lenses which are fantastic, and the image sensors they use get good reviews. There's a nice 29mm wide one on the DMC-FS15 model.

Fuji F70EXR or F200EXR. Good with low light, more manual controls if you ever need them and the EXR offers better quality. Canon Powershot S90- nice zoom much like a SLR with a manual focus ring on the lens. Canons are just always very sharp and pick up the detail. If you want all the bells and auto-everything- Sony are good- auto smile/shake/make coffee

There is not enough information there for anyone to give you proper advice.

What you are asking is the equivalent of "Can you suggest a really good car?"

Some will say the Lotus, others may then suggest a ten year old used Golf, yet others will insist on the Ferrari, then some will say that what you really need is a Bike or maybe Roller Skates.

If you had said you needed to take four passengers, gear and be able to drive up a rough mountain track with a budget of €8k then you would get advice on buying a Landrover or a Jeep etc.

So a good point and shoot is one which is in your budget that has the features you require for what you are shooting.

If it's a "beer camera" so that you can get happy snaps for Facebook etc, then the choice is huge. A read through this thread may help you decide.
