Glasses -vs- Contacts

    Hi all

I've been wearing glasses for years now for driving / computer work. Over the past year my vision has gotten very bad. Now I'm starting to need glasses constantly. I can't read anything of my (HD) TV, can't read books with small sized print etc etc.

I don't want to be wearing glasses constantly so I was thinking about contacts. Just looking for people's opinions on this. Cost, convenience etc. All weighed up, would you go with contacts or glasses?

Had been wearing glasses all my life and tried contacts 2 years ago and havent looked back, wear monthlys so put them in and forget about then for 1 month, eyes can become tired but eye drops sort that out. Dont like thinks in my eye but dont even notice them in. specsavers do a trial for free but then their contacts cost me €100 for 3 months, but now i buy online at visiondirect fo €100 for 6 months supply (exact same lens). most people dont go back to glasses once they try lens.

I am a glasses girl through and through: I've tried every brand of contacts I can think of and I always "feel" them: I use contacts for going out and glasses for everything else! I have one pair for "good" wear, one for work, and one cheapo pair for lying around the house cause I'm always breaking them! Cost wise they are cheaper aswell: but its personal preference too and it all depends on yourself to be honest!

I wear glasses day to day and contacts when im out at weekend etc .
I used to wear contacts every day but to be honest i had one or two incidents over the space of a few years where a contact slipped out or whatever and i found myself ****ed for the day then with no glasses with me , those days were a write off , then the odd lens tore on me which was money down the drain . And i did find my eyes very tired after contacts at the end of the day.
Personally after using both glasses win out .

I have been using bosch&lomb pure vision toric monthlys. I tried contacts about 15 years ago but couldnt even open my eyes they were so uncomfortable but now i dont even feel these soft contacts and they never give any trouble. I have had a few incendents where i ended up with eye infections such as dust and dirt in the eyes or prob the worst was a massive hangover where the whites of my eyes turned pure red (scary red) due to dehydration but wasnt that uncomfortable. I cant fault contacts but everybodys different.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll head into an optician and see what they say.

    Cheers

Going by your username I'm guessing my point won't make much sense to you, but I'd compare the difference between glasses and contacts to the choice women make between towels and tampons. :D

Some people will solely use one and hate the idea of using the other.

And other people will use one most of the time and the other when circumstances require.

I could labour the point but I'll stop here! :P

It's totally a personal choice but something you have to try out for yourself before forming an opinion.

I was like yourself. I only used them for tv/computer/read **** off the board in college etc. I didn't like the idea of wearing them fulltime but I couldn't put contacts in my eyes for the life of me. I've been wearing my glasses full time nearly three years now and haven't had a problem. Once you get used to it they become a part of you and not wearing glasses feels weird. It's like making the change from briefs to boxers or vice versa.

The downsides are finding glasses that look well on you. When you only use them occasionally this isn't that big a deal but when you wear them all day, every day you don't want glasses that don't work well with your face. Second thing is you become dependent on them. Losing or breaking them is an even bigger pain in the ass then it was before. That's the boat I'm in now. Half a roll of sellotape is holding these things together now. Won't have my new ones until thursday as my right eye has a weird prescription.

A little tip for you. If your prone to breaking glasses like me, don't get rimless or semi rimless glasses. They're a bitch to try and hold them in place with sellotape.

I wear glasses driving, watching telly etc.

I'm just after finishing my first 5 day trial of contacts & have to say I'm loving it. They recommended I stick to daily lenses as my eyes are really dry. Glad now I'd decided not to go for laser vision, as the optician said that I'm probably one of the people they wouldn't do it on. Bought a 30 day supply from Spec Savers to start with, but will probably buy online in the future.

Delighted now that I'm able to get them in & out quickly enough & looking forward to going on nights out with make up on & not having to wear glasses and also going on holidays & being able to wear non-prescription sun glasses etc. I'll still be wearing my glasses around the house and driving & stuff, but glad I now have another option if I want it.
