Hi, we have out date and booked our hotel but now the hotel is offering a package that suits our needs better and seems to be much better value for money (more than our current arrangement but includes alot more). I'm wondering how to approach this with the hotel. We have only paid the initial deposit and since the package on offer is new (on offer this year too to new bookings), can I assume that its a simple arrangement. Any experience, guidelines, input. Thanks

We came across this same situation recently- so what we did was found a hotel with similar package, (call up said hotel and have them hold the date for the while- pretending you need to see the hotel first) and threaten to cancel everything to go to them unless they can do something better- the very next day we got a reviewed cheaper package.

Review your signed T&Cs/contract first - does it say anything specific about pricing? If not then you should be able to use whatever offer is available when you agree menus, guest numbers etc. If pricing is stated then formally you're stuck with these, though most hotels should allow you to switch to the cheaper option.

IMHO it's pointless to go in all guns blazing to the hotel - just state your case and you should be fine.

The hotel should be able to offer you the new package. Speak to them.

Will you let us know how it goes?
In most of the T+Cs ive read it says that pricing is subject to change so working on that basis id expect you can negotiate if you have not made a full payment.
Have you paid more then the deposit? because if the deposit is all that youve paid so far i think it tips it more in your favour again
    Good luck
