keo squeak

There was a recent thread what pedals people were giving advice on pedals.I had just bought a pair of keo max and I was singing about them.I had only at the time used them on my turbo. They felt great on the turbo light solid easy to get out off and a little vague.

Time to try them in the real world, that's what I did today. My first impression was light and solid like my ultegra pedals. After a few miles they don't have this wide platform they claimed to have.Well compared to the shimano's anyway, but that's alright they are just a different pedal system.
It's just the way it is maybe that's why they are lighter.

However I did stop to take a drink and stood at the side of the road on a patch of wet grass cleat's got muddy.Back on the bike after a short time squeak squeak, seems that the cleat's can't get dirty or wet!!!

Is this true at first it was annoying, then I found it to be funny I was warned.I always wanted a pair of look pedal's now I have them I am quite disappointed.Yeah there light but they feel vague compared to my ultegra and the squeaking is a real let down.Plus the so called wide platform is a fact, but how come you use the same cleat as other keo's?
To really get a wider platform why not make the cleat's and the pedals a bigger?Or am I being dumb I Will continue to use them probably just need to give them a chance.

my keo 2's squeak ( much more than my keo classics)

i dont know whether its the new gripper cleats or what (thinking of putting my old cleats back)

bit of candle wax on the front and back of cleat/pedal seems to help for a while.

(i have heard of putting ptfe spray but wouldnt want that anywhere near my shoes look cleats are slippy enough)

oh and they do have a bigger platform than the old keo's

i have nothing to compare them to as i've only run look's as road pedals (i do run spds on the commuter and mtb but wouldnt do long rides in spd's personally)

A free cadence sensor? What's wrong with that?

    Just squeak faster ;)

Thanks for the advice very interesting. The keo's are nice and light:D told a few mates about how a light pedal is nearly always better. They just don't understand that 55 gram saving is a big deal. They nearly fell over laughing.

Mine have also squeaked in the past. Give them a good clean with a degreaser - even warm water and wash-up liquid would work. See where that gets you. If it doesn't work, try spraying on some drying lube, like WD-40. Or use candle wax. 'Course, you could just wait until the squeaking eventually goes away.

About the pedal feel: have you tried increasing the spring tension?

What about the cleats? Which ones do you have? I have had both floating types - red and gray. Up to now, I used the lesser-floating one. About to try zero float (black) this weekend.
