McCullough Pigotts do one roughly in your price range and it's not bad after a little tweaking.

Can't remember the name - sounds Italian. I long since lost the tag on it! I like it because it's not one of those toothpicks, has full body with cutouts. Also, tone isn't bad. I played some of the Yamahas which were 300-500 most expensive and didn't rate the tone as much. This one is quite warm and for an electric is a fairly true tone.

I think if you do get one for this budget, it would be worth closely inspecting the bridge as I find it can need a bit of work. Also, the disadvantage I found with this is the pick-up can get loose. On the whole though, I would recommend it and (I think his name is Joe) in McCullough Ps is really helpful if it ever needs some work.

    Good luck
