Sun holidays, Culture trips ( exploring cities / countryside / musuem tours etc or a mixture of both.

Just like to know what people do for their hols. Personally, Ive no time for sun holidays, they'd bore me to tears. I dont see anything in lying on a beach cooking myself all day. I prefer seeing the sights, walking around a city, wasting my money in the tourist spots! etc etc

Which type of holiday do you prefer? 9 votes

I do city breaks every couple of weeks or so - whenever I can get a cheap flight and visit someone I know in another country. In the summer, I tend to do a round trip, exploring multiple countries. I really enjoy planning all of this and am happy to invest lots of time into getting the best deals. I also always look for error fares, discount vouchers that can be used multiple times (often violating the T&Cs :))... The result is that I get to spend three weeks traveling through 5 or 6 European countries on a budget of about €700 :).

I love sightseeing/culture holidays but I do like to take them in a sunny destination, if I can. We always self cater and book independently, hire a car and tour around, do some walking and swimming. Nothing like finding your own beach and having a picnic as we did in Greece last year!
Have also spent 2 weeks based in Stockholm where we were spoilt for choice with museums and took some great daytrips from the city.

Sitting at the side of a pool in a hotel for a week or longer would be my idea of hell :D

We like a mixture of both. Culture in the sun :D We've spent the past four summer holidays on different Greek Island. Island hopping between Santorini and Naxos was probably the best holiday we ever had. While I love the beach, 2 hours is about as long as I last on it. Love walking, finding hidden away sights. Not a fan of organised tours (being stuck on a bus for the bones of 8 hours, infront of Jack & Vera Duckworth in the Algarve a few years ago, put an end to that).

Long leisurly meals in a taverna, eating local produce and drinking local wine, is the ideal end to a lovely day.

Have no interest in "sun" holidays at all. <yawn>

Where is the option for people that do activities other than sitting around on a beach during their holidays?

Mine would be sightseeing culture city trips (that's with the boy) however I have gone on sun holidays with my Mam.
They wouldn't be my idea of a hol but the Mammy loves them.
However we are heading to Lanzarote in a few weeks time for a week and I am looking forward to relaxing and getting a bit of sun on my bones.
Having said that I'll probably be going nuts on day 2!

I like to go somewhere sunny in the summer as the sun really picks up my mood and I like to relax. However, I burn extremely easily and love visiting cultural things, so I often go to places which offer both. I also don't like drinking and many sun holiday resorts are heavily based on that. I like to go to places which have more of a restaurant scene.

Previous holidays have included Egypt and Jordan, Cyprus, Turkey and Greece. These places give you culture and sun.
